Lawsuit filed against Alberta skydiving company

According to a lawsuit filed against an Alberta-based skydiving company, it failed to provide adequate training, resulting in a British soldier suffering severe injuries. The claim is seeking an award of $150,000. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom and may result in civil litigation before the case is resolved.

The incident in question took place on Aug. 11, 2012, northeast of Calgary at Beiseker. The solider who was injured belonged to the Scots Dragoon Battle Group, which was participating in a free-fall parachute training exercise in Canada. According to the suit, the soldier landed in an uncontrolled manner after losing control of his parachute. He suffered severe injuries in the incident. According to the lawsuit, the defendant failed to provide adequate training and education to the students.

When someone suffers severe injuries in any kind of accident, he or she may experience physical and emotional pain, possibly leading to missed work. If the injuries were caused by the careless or negligent actions of another person or company, the victim may be entitled to financial compensation.

A personal injury lawyer could review an injured person’s case to determine if the circumstances of the accident indicate negligence. The lawyer could also estimate the value of the lawsuit. To determine the value, the lawyer may want to know how much work the injured person has missed and how long the recovery will take. In addition, the lawyer may want to understand how the injuries have affected the plaintiff’s life. Most cases are settled through negotiation between the plaintiff’s lawyer and the defendant and his or her insurance carrier. However, some cases are settled through civil litigation in court.
